RELIABLE TRAVEL AGENT, PENSIONS AND HOTELS IN HANIA

The Synagogue is contacted on numerous occasions for travel information that can be quite complicated.  We also are asked to book hotels etc..or about kashrut facilities etc. We have been and are somewhat circumspect about getting involved in such situations as they excite quite complicated further questions and are a potential source of problems and even complaints– e.g. when a couple turned up for our Seder which we had explained was going to be vegetarian as we have no access to kashrut. They were chagrined (horrified?) when they found that some of the dishes contained rice –in good Sephardi tradition – as well as sword-fish which though in adulthood do not have scales are in fact scaled until the sixth month or so and thus our rabbis permitted their being eaten. We also try to avoid the inevitable cut-throat competition that is natural in tourist centres.  However, we have kept a list of the hotels and pensions that have been recommended to us. With the exception of the Doma Hotel all are within walking distance of the Synagogue.  For ten years or so we have been helped on numerous occasions by our travel agent who is reliable and also quite meticulous in keeping track of arrivals and departures of planes and ferries to Hania as well as car rentals.
